When I picked up a new 120 gig hard drive yesterday for my 'older' G3 [266 Mhz tower], I also picked up an IDE or ATA cable that will allow my machine to accommodate a second hard drive on the same bus. The second being set up as a slave, and the other a master as indicated by the configuration of the jumpers on the drives themselves.
My mother board doesn't allow for another ATA or IDE cable to be plugged directly into it. This is why I went for this cable that allows two drives to be attached.
Considering all this, am I not slowing down the performance of my machine, now that I have two drives on this one bus?
In other words, with the 66 mhz bus speed being slow by today's standards, will it now be even slower with 2 drives on it?
Also, Apple mentioned that the largest drive my 266 Mhz G3 will accommodate is 120 gig. So, if I create two partitions on this new 120 gig drive, will the machine see both of them along with my older 6 gig drive?
Help .... !
