    As mentioned, a loose sound cable from the CD drive is a possibility.
    Are you using iTunes to play CD's directly? If using other music
software, the problem may lie there. I wonder if you have some old software
or control panels causing a conflict of sorts. I would delete any music
playing software other than iTunes and look for any software (extensions or
control panels) left over from OS8 that needs to be deleted- you may have
duplicates, like 2 sound control panels, though the OS 9 updgrade SHOULD
have taken care of this. These things can be a nuisance to clear up.
    Under the control panel "sound" , got to the tab "speakers" & make sure
the vol is up to at least the middle area and the mute box isn't checked.
Since you say other things play ok I don't think this would be the case
though.
