Hi Dan,

StarMax computers have three slots for memory modules(or DIMMs).
The computer will work with a minimum of 16Mb to a maximum of 160MB.
Slots can accept 16,32,and 64 MB DIMMS
DIMMS must be 168-pin,3.3V un-buffered Extended Data Out (EDO),
60 nanosecond RAM access time or faster.

The slot marked "single bank" can accept a 16MB, 32MB, single bank DIMM, as
installed at the factory.
Single banked DIMMs often appear to be double banked, when they are really
single banked.

This slot accepts a "dual bank" DIMM, but will not recognize half of it.

The remaining 2 DIMM slots, marked "dual bank", can accept single or dual bank
of size 16MB, 32MB, or 64MB (NOTE: 64MB DIMMs must use11-bit row address,2 KB
refresh).--see Motorola technical info-page 12.

NOTE: The word ³BANK² here refers to the RAM stick itself and not to the SLOTS
on the board; i.e., as in, ³2 banks of 2 SIMMs or DIMMs² . There a ³Bank²
refers to pairs of slots in a particular configurations.

So when you put the double-bank DIMM in slot one, where a single-sided is
called for.
only half of it (16 MB) registered. . . giving you a total of 144MB (64 + 64
+16)

And the chips on the RAM stick (one side or both sides) are not an accurate
indicator
of whether the stick is a single-bank or a double-bank DIMM.

64mb, 3V, unbuffered, EDO,* double sided* 168pin Dimm
May be used in slots 2 and 3 only
Manufactured by MemoryX, Lifetime Warranty
Compatible with: Powermac 4400, StarMax 3000, 4000, 5000
