|Has anyone tried to create their own asterisms? or customize the
|existing stick figures?

I did. No big success, as the data for the origin and end of each 'stick' is
encoded data, readable only for those knowing to de-chiphre or those, who
wrote them:

"The information in the asterisms (and the other constellations text files)
that reads "Star=xxxxxxxxxxx" can be omitted. It is compressed information
about the star position and other data, but if it is omitted, Starry Night
can still look up this information from the star name."

That's from a mail I received from Mike Parkes in my attempts to
find/get/build data for ancient constellations (classic Greek, Assyrian,
Babylonian, or even Chinese).
All I could achieve is to modify (a copy of!) Astronomical.Txt as to show at
least today's stick-figures of those constellations already known by the
ancient Greek (the 48 classic constellations as described by Eudoxos and
referred to us by Ptolemaios).
