Puppet's website[1] has all kinds of docs (and if you are missing something, mail the puppet-users list, feedback about gaps in the documentation is really helpful) I also wrote a fairly extensive tutorial [2] a while ago; while I doubt it will work verbatim anymore, reading it should at least give you a good overview of what puppet is and does.
