Hi everyone.

Those that know me, probably know I've been wanting to carry this idea
forward.
OTOH I haven't been seeing Evan pushing this, so I suspect he changed his
ideas.

Non the less I believe that integrating media into µblogging (and the other
way around too) is a good idea, and have been trying to pull a rabbit out of
the hat on how to do it.
One thing that earlier came to my mind is that StatusNet is good at doing
µblogging but not at images gallery showing. There are plenty of other
services and CMS out there doing it.
So instead of reinventing the wheal, I believe the best way for us to
proceed is partnering with 3rd party image/media services.

So, after I found ourdoings.com from Bruce Lewis, for personal use, and
began talking to him about this idea, he showed interest in partnering.
All we need is to write up a good open API for media S2S sharing.

The way I see this working is having users upload images on a StatusNet
server that would then store it on 3rd party media servers, where the user
would have his own gallery linked back to his statusnet account, allowing
comments on images there to be sent to the Federated network.
Both poster and and viewer could choose to view images inline or as links
(via our great external media viewer). Tags on images would also be tags on
user timeline

Is this good?
Who wants to help out writing the API? Then we could make this yet another
plugin where server admins would enable at will choosing from the available
supported 3rd party media servers.
What is required on both ends to make this work? any ideas are good ideas at
this point.
Also we could make use of the future OAuth module to handle authentication,
right?

Come on, shoot your brains at me, so we all can make StatusNet better.
