StatusNet runs a lot more sites than just identi.ca and *.status.net - you can't possible create a whitelist for all of them. Why not support discovery?
The same applies to Wordpress. I created a Wordpress OEmbed plugin - see http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/oembed-provider/ .
