That's quite cool! What is the non-profit? localeyes.org ? I haven't heard of anyone doing a rating plugin, but it would be a good one and great to have an admin interface to be able to have settings.
If you consider that there is the ability to click that you like a post, that is a rating, of sorts. Research shows that 1 star is enough to accurately represent popularity over 5 or more stars. Also, what do you seek, to have rated posts rise to the top?
