Dear developer team,

for quite a while I have been working on refraction and extinction, time
allowing. In December, Fabien has re-worked my refraction attempts and put
it into the coordinate matrix processing. Very elegant, and it now works
also for planets, but it introduced a problem with illumination (bright
side of planets/moon don't point to the sun), the reason of which I have
not found yet.

The other part, extinction, depends on object altitude and seemed easy
enough to implement at least for stars, but something in the star catalogs
and data handling escaped my attention. In effect, there are bright stars
which vanish suddenly in far too high altitude, not as 1-Pixel-dots, but
with large dot size. I am afraid I am stuck, and would require help by
more experienced Stellarium developers.

I have added a small extra panel for the atmosphere details settings as
requested/commented by one of you in December, so the main settings panel
is again small enough for netbooks. I think it is interesting to "play"
with these important effects.

You can have a look in my branch,
https://code.launchpad.net/~georg-zotti/stellarium/refraction

My changes and history are described in CHANGES-FROM-TRUNK.txt

I am happy to help and explain my thoughts and what should be done, in
order to get that finished and merged. I unfortunately don't have the time
to finish this alone.

Any volunteers?

Georg
