Great, it could use an update! I'll give a short opinion as that is the
only thing I have time for these days.
- I really like that the top gets more contrast copared to the rest of
the page and that there's a slide show of larger screenshots. Everything
else on the page is unimportant for most visitors anyway. The language drop
down menu is really needed, so that's good.
- I would give the intro text "Stellarium is an open source
planetarium..." more breathing space, especially on the top and left. Just
add like 20px padding to the home-describe div.
- I 'd lose the rounded corner if you can't repeat it on the top right of
the slide show.
- The download icons might be too randomly silhouetted to really work,
they look quite disparate to me. Maybe frame them or create new square(ish)
icons
- The titles "Release" and "beta" need more space below them. In fact,
don't call it "release", just call it "download".
- I don't know if it's really necessary to add a link to the beta for
Windows on top. Enthusiasts would quickly find a link below I'm sure. Keep
in mind Stellarium aims at everyone, from ten year olds to senior casual
computer users. We want to spare them possible beta glitches.
- The only thing I really don't like is the reworked main title. It
should work as a brand name and website logo (without version information,
because that dilutes the strength of the graphic design). The letter spacing
of the thin font isn't good. I was thinking the icon/splash screen to the
left needs an update, but recycling it like this with the thick border
doesn't work in my opinion. I must try to find time to do at least a new
splash screen for a possible version 1.0, if it would be accepted.
VoilĂ , my thoughts.
Thanks for looking at it!
