Fortis Malar-Will Become SRL Diagnostics; CMP Rs 83
In the on-going transition at Fortis, the Chennai based Malar Hospitals
will move into Fortis Health and the entire diagnostics SRL division of
Fortis will move to Fortis Malar. Thus Malar will become a diagnostics
player like Dr Lal Pathlabs and Thryocare.

The current market cap of Rs 155 crore for Malar represents a single
hospital, that was sold off by Dr. Sudha Ramamurthy to the Singhs. This
super speciality hospital reports an EPS of Rs 3 and on that basis seems
expensive.

Post the transfer of diagnostics biz, the allotment of additional shares to
the Fortis shareholders and to those of Malar, this entity should be worth
atleast Rs 2000-3000 crore, with a PE in excess of 35.

Ten years ago Malar used to quote at Rs 9, this is before Sudha's
cardiologist husband died and the eldest daughter Madhi Malar got married
to Sri Lankan star Muthiah Muralitharan. A googly is still to be bowled in
this stock.
