Chilean judge Juan Guzman Tapia will ask US authorities to question former secretary of state Henry Kissinger in connection with the execution of US journalist Charles Hormann in Chile, the court said. Guzman is leading the prosecution of former dictator Augusto Pinochet for his suspected role as an accessory to 75 kidnappings and murders by a military unit in October 1973, a month after a violent coup brought Pinochet to power. Attorneys Sergio Corbalan and Fabiola Letelier asked Guzman on May 18 to question Pinochet and Kissinger about the death of Hormann, who was shot dead together with other political prisoners in Santiago's National Stadium, according to numerous witness accounts. Guzman dismissed the request to question Pinochet, but agreed to send a questionnaire to US justice officials asking Kissinger to clarify what information he has, if any, about the assassination of Hormann. According to reports published in Washington, Hormann was a spy for the CIA at the time. In late May, during a visit to, France Kissinger declined a summons to testify in an investigation into the disappearance of five French nationals during Pinochet's dictatorship. The US embassy in Paris informed French magistrate William Bourdon that if he wanted to question Kissinger, he should address his request to the State Department in Washington. ...........................
