This is a victory for democracy and common sense over bullying and guilt politics. The government and all the main establishment parties, the Catholic Church, ICTU, Farmers Organisations and Employers and the National media attempted to coerce the Irish electorate by bullying words so as to induce a sense of guilt claiming a no vote was selfish and would block new applicant countries. The electorate saw through this smoke screen and voted accordingly. The wishes of the Irish people must be respected. The Nice Treaty issue is dead. The government must abide by that decision. There is a need for a major rethink on the future of Europe. It is clear that the Irish electorate do not want involvement in the planned European Army they obviously wish to remain neutral. They also wish to remain as equal members of the EU and not part of a two tier European structures. Europe is about people not just about the needs of Global corporations. The people have spoken respect their decision Nice is dead.
