What would you guys recommend for a simple home file server?

I was attracted to Solaris because of ZFS and it's advantages over RAID 5.

As I mentioned, I'm looking to setup a speedy file server only to
serve files to my Windows machines.

Should I just run that Nevada 77 release, look to FreeBSD v7.0, or...?

I've used Linux before but just know the very basics...

Thanks!
