Yes you should have. I remember seeing a little Danger Box to this
efect in the install descriptions in Max. Linux mag.

I don't know. I would fiddle with that bootable bit, and have a
rescue disk handy. Use msdos fdisk on dos ptn's, and linux fdisk on
linux ptn's, though I'm told you can change ptn type with linux and
just format it without rm-ing it and recreating it. And man lilo.
And thank goodness you you saved linux, instead of the other way
around. :-)
And in lilo, go boot=/dev/hdaX where X== ... you know. And run lilo.
