I tried installing Helix Gnome on my Storm (potato) system and apt-get
complained that it needed some later packages. In any case, the Gnome in
Potato needs upgrading along with the installation of Helix Gnome. Helix
themselves say that if you are not currently running Gnome (ie. do not
have it installed) then you need to point /etc/apt/sources.list to
woody, add 'deb http://spidermonkey.helixcode.com/distributions/debian
unstable main' and do 'apt-get install task-helix-core
task-helix-gnome'. Of course you need to do 'apt-get update' first!
If you currently run Gnome you need to do 'apt-get dist-upgrade' instead
of the above apt-get command.
Note I did not use the Storm Package Manager but instead did the upgrade
*outside of X* at the command prompt. I figured this would be wise since
all manner of running processes were being upgraded.
I used the term flawless because it just worked, without a hitch. I set
it going, and went to watch TV. When I got back there was a dialogue box
asking me about keyboards, I responded and on it went with the upgrade.
Came back later and it was completed.
I did remove ~/.gnome and renamed ~/.gnome-desktop to give Helix-Gnome a
fresh start with the desktop.
