Hi,
I do believe that any "winmodem" is simply not a
functioning modem on a non-MS machine. As you say, essential hardware
parts are missing. The only answer is a modem with the hardware.
I just paid $54 to buy a replacement for one that I broke in my klutzy
fashion. Were I starting over, I think I might put out the extra
for an external modem that might resist obsolescence a bit longer.
