I just downloaded Sun's java developement kit.  read the documentation that
came with it.  Other than extracting the archive, it seems to be the same as
putting it on windows.  
note: I did extractions as root to /usr/local/java/jdk1.3...
I when I went to modify my .bashrc I noticed that no PATH had been set?
Anyway, I set PATH= /usr/local/java/jdk1.3/bin : /usr/bin/ : /usr/local/bin/
The next time I started up terminal (in KDE) the first line above the prompt
was no such directory as /usr/bin::  
So...  I change class path not to include /usr/bin, even though I know it
exists.  I started up a console, and saw the same message.
So I rebooted, for lack of a better idea.  Now
