It appears so. Did you tried to recompile the kernel with no succes?

Good, you must be a happy man:-). Can you share exactly how did you
make the sound work, in case that you have the same soundcard? On
the other hand I never had sound problems with Red Hat (and other Red
Hat-like distros such Mandrake and Caldera). In your case it's opposite.:-)
