I had had my eth0 working; that is, if config showed an entry for it, but>From the sound of it, I think that the 3c59x.o driver is being used for the 3c905.c NIC. When using modconf select the 3c59x driver. If not,
having re-compiled my kernel kernel-source-2.2.16-storm-ide, it has
stopped working. When I run# /etc/init.d/network start
SIOCADDRT: File exists
eth0: unknown interface: No such deviceI've tried modconf, but it doesn't show my 3Com 3C905c. Can anyone suggest
a line of attack? TIA----

according to http://lhd.datapower.com/db/dispdriver.php3?DISP?803 there is a new 3com driver available for the 3c905.c...it can be used in place of the 3c59x driver. The new driver is the 3c90x.c. If you'd rather have the newer and more product-specific driver for your NIC, the http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/linux.htm link will take you to 3com's site complete with Readme/Install documents. Debian, but more specifically Storm Linux, is not listed as a "Tested On" Linux distribution...so your mileage may vary.
