I'm still unable to see my DSL modem via my ethernet card, a 3Com
3c905c Etherlink PCI. I believe this is because my OS can't see
the card. I think the relevant part of dmesg is:
3c59x.c 16Aug00 Donald Becker and others http://www.scyld.com/network/vortex.html
eth0: 3Com 3c905C Tornado at 0xdc00, 00:01:02:45:d2:f9, IRQ 5
8K byte-wide RAM 5:3 Rx:Tx split, autoselect/Autonegotiate interface.
MII transceiver found at address 24, status 782d.
Enabling bus-master transmits and whole-frame receives.
I have heard both that 3c59x.o will handle this card, and that I must use
use 3c90x.o as the kernel module. I have both, but lsmod shows that
3c59x is loaded just after boot, and rmmod 3c59x reports:
3c59x: Device or resource busy
so I'm not able to try the 3c90x module. Also ifconfig reports:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:01:02:45:D2:F9
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
Interrupt:5 Base address:0xdc00
so maybe the card is fine and I need do domething to make pppoe start.
I've tried
root@rjw# /etc/init.d/network start
SIOCADDRT: File exists
root@rjw# /etc/init.d/networking start
Setting up IP spoofing protection: rp_filter.

done.
I'm not sure what either message signifies, but the second looks discouraging.
Can anyone help? TIA
