I'm afraid I cannot help you with your specific problem. I took the abrupt
way out last time when I tried to upgrade from Rain to Potato (ie: I
reinstalled). Obviously that's something I'm sure you'd prefer to avoid.
Maybe one of the Stormix guys can help you with this one.

However, one bit of advice I do offer to get a second drive for
"development" stuff like that. I have 3 drives. One for production, one for
Development, and on scratch drive that I continually install different
software and Linux distros on for my writing work as I often have to review
different Linux distros. I purchased a frame kit so I can easily switch
between drives. When I want to use development software, I put in the
development drive and start up. similarly when I'm doing production issues
or if I have a review (like I did this weekend). It's made my life that much
easier.

I realize this doesn't help you now, but maybe for some future direction?
