Thanks for the response guys (i mean that in a unisex way)!

I tried pronto. It is easily the be mail client I have tried so far
but...
You say fast??? It is a pig! 17MB of memory consumtion. 3-4 as long
to fire up as many of the other clients.

Once you have it up and running, it is great. looks great, threading
lets you send mail, browse mail, search mail, compose mail all at the
same time. This is the best abook I have seen. I does not have slots
for useless crap like next of kin, dog's name, penile lentgh etc, while
it offers usefull features such as groups.

Balsa is excellent. Tiny footprint, small abook. looks ok. filters
work for me, although could use a little work. If balsa was threaded it
would be king on my list. But while checking mail, the program is
unaccessible. Lets keep our fingers crossed for future versions.

I am going to try magellan tonight.

as for UI, I use bb, so it does not matter. I use kde apps and gtk
apps. As long as it does not require gnome or kde to be running I don't
care.

as far as front ends, there is an xPine. I did not try it though due to
lack of abook.

One mail client which I am liking is postoffice. Clean interface,
threaded. 5MB footprint. But some of the menu and button bindings are
not funcitoning.
