Debian provides precompiled kernels, as does Stormix.  Ours already has raid,
usb, and lvm patches applied.

You can leave out everything for hardware you don't have.

Only if you are trying to run an NFS server/client.

The precompiled kernel should not need recompilation unless you are upgrading
to a major new version.  (2.4.x, 2.2.18, etc.)
