i would make a script in /etc/init.d/
and symlink it from the runlevels you want to use it in
like...
/etc/init.d/portsenty (a shell script that starts portsentry how you want
/etc/rc2.d/S99portsenty > /etc/init.d/portsenty
that will start it at runlevel 2
