I often make and install programs on my own (usually b/c I can find a newer version in
source but not as a *.deb). Anyway, is there a way to let apt-get know that I have
done this.  Example make B; make install B.  Now apt-get install A.  -> A has a
dependancy on B, so then apt-get install a different, older version of B. Hope this
is not too confusing.

ps-anyone remember the name of that package which lets one use SAS to choose what runs
on startup, someone said initmod, but this is incorrect, or my sources are incorrect.
