 My pick on this.

Stormix is Debian with some extra packages. As long as you stay with
current hail release and install packages from debian potato you
shouldn't have any problems
at all. When upgrade time comes, just chage the apt-lines to point to
woody and
do the dist-upgrade.Whatever specific packages won't work in the new
release
will be removed.Meanwhile use waht you have and start learning how to
edit
the config files yourself without the use of SAS and subscribe to the
Debian specific mailing lists..user,kde,firewall..
If you're really, realy concerned then make another partition and try to
install Debian potato and see how that goes and research any
problems/difficulties you have.Learn how to use dpkg ,apt(do an
apt-cache search for them and read the man pages for all packages, see
the dpkg -force options),console-apt,gnome-apt,SPM
(stormix package manager is part of Debian).

And don't overeact just because a guy from Vancouver,WA,USA(or SanJose
depending which traceroute you trust)hiding behind a yahoo mail was
overly-concerned about the future of Stormix and felt he has to flame us
all. :-) .If flaming was not the intention I appologize but this is how
it was perceived .

All the best
