Well, it was to good to believe. My upgrade to testing (woody) was flawless
for three weeks. Then I did an apt-get dist-upgrade today, and it tried to
upgrade XFree86.
The initial message I got was Xconnection to :00 broken,no screens found
and then the screen started blinking, and it said
mode "AAAAXBBBB"needs hsync. freq of '91.15 kHz' deleted
where AAAAXBBBB was a possible screen resolution. It listed all of the
possibilities. gdm or xdm do not work
If I could connect my modem on a non-graphical screen, I could try
installing xviddetect
or try apt-get --reinstall install talk-x-window-system
(I used x-isp before)
Alternatively, I suppose I could log into Win98, and copy files to a
directory where I could retrieve them in linux, and then use dpkg -i
Any suggestions? If I try XFree86 -configure, then the mouse works fine,
but no video. the xfonts seemed to have installed themselves in
/etc/X11/fonts without a problem
Thanks,
Glen
