Sauman,

I have never heard of the "Maplecroft report". Do you have a link?
I agree that "Biochar**,bio dynamic farming and bio energy farming" do need to be promoted on a wider scale /*among smallholders*/ -- this means addressing issues of land ownership. **On Biochar and "fertilisers": please be aware that Biochar itself is *not* a "fertilizer" in the traditional sense. Its function may be to help reduce [or possibly even eliminate] the need for chemical fertilizers (if combined with things like composting and "biological (organic) farming" and /*total nutrient cycling*/ -- i.e. composting of all (non-toxic) "wastes" to return the minerals and nutrients that were extracted by the growing plants back to the soil. This nutrient cycling and soil building function is, I believe, where the real power of Biochar will likely be found. I also like your idea of "/*micro grids of sustainability and safety*/". This is a very visual / descriptive way of stating the goals we should be aiming for. Good to hear about a "Green Bank" in India. I heard yesterday that the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has also created a "Multilateral Investment Fund" (MIF) that is intended to be "a laboratory, a testing ground for innovative projects that promote economic growth and poverty reduction" in Latin America. They target Family Businesses, Cultural Industries, Human Capital and what the call "Second Chance Entrepreneurship". MIF looks for projects that are Innovative, provide a "Demonstration Effect" (should have the potential of being taken to scale, or replicated in other sectors and/or countries), be financially Sustainable and are carried out with local partners.

If we take this report and hash it with the Maplecroft report.Where we see that India is No1,Bangladesh is no2,Nepal is no 4 and Maynamar is 5 or 6,Countries that will worst effected due to the effects of Climate change and energy poverty More reason that Bio char(fertilisers),bio dynamic farming and bio energy farming should become mainstream business model of choice to create micro grids of sustainability and safety. In India like Nepal a Green Bank has been announced about a week back by the Govt Of India to address these issues of seed funding and to take the Bio Energy Initiative forward.
Similar is the lobby working in Australia.
My thoughts for the day.
