The current release is 1.5.3, but it never made it into the Maven central repo. I'm working on that right now. I figure 1.5.4 will be released in the next couple of weeks with improvements to the layout tags and hopefully DynamicMappingFilter.
As for 1.6, well, I won't even guess.
