Is it valid to have be able to set an initial value in that case? The usual answer to 
"How do I set the 
default values for a form" is of course, set them in the form. In order to maximise 
reuse I usually 
(although am slack when deadlines approach) use the same form for first time user 
registering 
info and for returns to edit same info. That means that I would NEVER use the default 
value.

so, 
is there any point in it being there?
if so, would the solution necessarily require a bit of java 
script? because I am starting to explain to clients that struts 1.1 requires 
javascript 
supported and no disabled in the browser.
