I was thinking it would be cool to add a new tag which would
allow users to check for errors with a specific form field (or for errors in
all fields) and render html within the body of the tag only in that
circumstance. This would allow
things such as coloring the title of a field differently if it was in error, or
perhaps inserting an image in front of the field if you don’t fill it in
right. A good example of this is on
the Dell website (or at least how it used to.) When you configure a PC, if you select a
piece of hardware that isn’t compatible with another piece of hardware,
it places an exclamation point in front of the title of the field, then
underneath that, displays a description of the reason for the error. Something else that could be cool would be to actually have
the form automatically set the focus to the first field that is in error. While I’m not sure of the best way
to accomplish this, I can think of a few ways it could be done which are
probably too detailed to waste everyone’s time with if it’s not
even a feature worth worrying about. Lastly, I would be willing to spend some time making these
changes and contributing the source to one of the committers for their review
if these enhancements are deemed worthwile… |
