When I setenv JAVA_COMPILER=NONE prior to starting it all works great and Tomcat 4.1.12 starts ( albeit slowly ) and seems functional. There are similar reports under NT/2K which gave me the idea to try this. Perhaps they are related, perhaps not. But I was unable to elicit any more detailed error messages from Java under NetWare other than the single line exc eption messsage.
