Several of the items here can be automated with Maven (ie. cvs activity). 
Unless the whole thing can be automated, I'm -0 on doing this.  I
personally don't have any time to contribute to these status reports and
my hunch is that they will fall into disrepair.

Save the status reports for managers, not fun volunteer projects :-).
