Looking at commons digester (and this is the first time I've ever looked at it), there isn't a rule for setting all attributes on a map, but it seems like it would be fairly straightforward to write a custom rule to do this.
I think I'm going to workaround it for now (subvert the use of another property like "name" which I can parse in my velocity template) as it seems a little more work than I anticipated.
If it was deemed a worthwhile mod and was worth trading the ability to have a DTD (can an xsd handle a scenario like this?) then it might be tempting to try.
