In most cases, it is pointless searching the mail-archive. As Jeff pointed out you either get nothing or everything and the kitchen sink.
This is probably the reason why we get so many repeat questions. What are the chances that struts-user be archived elsewhere with a more useful/helpful search facility. Or maybe the good folks at mail-archive can be nudged into improving their search engine. It is ironic that Google does a better job of searching the archive than does their own engine.
