To import fit files, you need to select "Import from dive computer"
and then pick FIT from the vendor choice (or just one of the Garmin
dive computers - they should all result in the same FIT file parsing).
Then in the "device or mount point", just give the directory you have
the FIT file in, and it should JustWork(tm).
But do note that the FIT file import has only been tested from some
Garmin dive computers and from a very small set of FIT files from the
new Suunto app. There has been several instances of the FIT files
having new fields etc and failures to import.
