Not sure why, but in sugar-jhbuild, where I do most of my work, it seems to reindex fairly often (~1 out of every 30-40 sessions launched). one trigger *seems to be* changing the display size, e.g., if I use 1200x900 sessions for a while and then switch to 800x600, it will often reindex.
