Not sure why it was brought into the shell code-wise, but as far as UX goes, the Journal UX should be "meaningfully differentiate[d]" from Activities[1] (regardless of its originally being an Activity under-the-hood). Martin 1. http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/6251#comment:7
