Limited disk space may be a problem, yes. You might fix that by hard linking a copy of Activities from one user directory to another.
sudo cp -prl /home/olpc/Activities /home/me/ The links don't cost much disk space. You can prove this by checking disk space with df before and after. Curiously, Sugar doesn't detect any new activities added via this mechanism, so I had to rm -rf .sugar and restart.
