What I usually do is to convert the .xml file to .csv with xml2csv.py python script (https://sumo.dlr.de/docs/Tools/Xml.html#xml2csvpy).
If you are familiar with Python you can use Pandas to read and plot csv files (in alternative R has the same functions in its own packages). Hope that helps.
