The only remedy for this is to remove other POIs from your simulation or to
remove all their type information (poi type is just an optional text label).

The only way to switch colors at runtime is to  switch between pre-defined
coloring schemes using traci.gui.setScheme or to switch between different
text properties (poi type, poi param etc). You can load a color scheme
using option -g

parameter in the gui settings dialog.
