Assuming you are talking about traci.person.getStage, the sumo
documentation was outdated: getStage resturns a stage object. (see
https://github.com/eclipse/sumo/blob/7000071d93beaf45f95f41217f5c89559908a803/tools/traci/_simulation.py#L27-L55
)
