In a way, that warning message is no longer needed. It dates to a time where multiple connections to the same lane were unsafe in SUMO and could cause collisions. This has long been fixed and now multiple connections to the same lane are either resolved with zipper logic or (for any other type of junction) with right-of-way rules that give priority to one of the connections. In the case you describe, the cars moving from north to west would have yielded to the bicycles that are coming from the north. With your change, they are doing zipper merge. Which one of those two behaviors is more realistic probably varies between localities.
