This is one of those things that if you think too much and ask too many questions you can never have a perfect solution.

In a similar question (not a dial), a parabolic mirror, I increased the thickness (enough to withstand the wind and the birds) and bonded a single boss (2x the diameter of the bolt) of the same material to the mirror. This method at least minimized all of the effects.

The suggestion to contact 3M about their latest and greatest is the best way to chose the adhesive.
