Rereading my main note on the sundial, I find I need to rework it a bit: I make the assumption that it is desirable, or even useful, to see the shadow of the tip of the gnomon on the plaza, but of course it isn't, at least not for telling the time of day: the direction of the shadow line is plenty enough....
