There was also a Barnaby Jones episode in which Barnaby proved that a photo was actually taken on a different date than the defendant claimed - by measuring length and angle of the shadow of a rowboat oar in the picture.

  I think, IIRC, that an old Perry Mason episode (1960?) had a plot twist that was also based on a photo in which the shadow played a part in the truth (or untruth) of an alibi due to the time recorded by a shadow.  I think the location and direction of the photo was documented by existing landmarks in this instance, as Paul and Della had to go shoot some establishing shots, much to Paul's amazment.
