I am working with some 18th century surveying field data of an open traverse.  The raw data (bearing corrected for compass declination and course (in 16.5 foot chains)) can be reduced using a "flat Earth" to give the lat/long of each setup.   For all practical purposes, this is the same as a spherical Earth.  I would like to display the traverse and its starting and ending points on Google Earth, which implies converting the spherical Earth coordinates to WGS84.  I have some experience in this area, but it was a long time ago and they keep changing stuff and the more I read, the more confused I get.

I would appreciate it if someone could direct me to a reference that explains how to convert coordinates for a spherical Earth to WGS84 coordinates in simple, declarative sentences.  Math is fine.  Long winded discourses on all of the acronyms for the various coordinate systems are not and are, as far as I can tell, the norm for this sort of thing.

Thanks,

Jim
