Thanks for your kind comments about my Pilkington & Gibbs’ appearance on the Antiques Roadshow recently. My apologies to all for the slip of the tongue when I said “day” instead of “year” when talking about the sun’s variation – it’s all too easy to get flustered when you are in extremely unfamiliar surroundings.
I did spend quite some time on the day trying to persuade the BBC that a programme about sundials would have universal interest, after all, they could have ready access to the world’s experts via this list. Sadly, they have not been beating a path to my door – well, not yet anyway. Incidentally, they managed to make two shows from their visit to our village, and my wife will be on next Sunday’s programme – she will be the one with the very large Imari plate. I have subsequently had an approach from someone who owns an “unknown” Sol Horometer. It is local to me, so I am going to have a look at it later today.
