Brian,
I admire your enthusiasm for SunRay, sounds like me four years ago. We found though that the license cost savings were not all that much. MS license structure required that we buy CAL licenses for every client that could potentially connect to the terminal server plus an Office license for every SR client as well. You may have a different deal with MS but I think that ours is pretty standard academic license. In the end the only way to save would have been to remove MS totally and our professors wouldn't stand for that. That you've sold the teachers and staff on SR is probably the key to your success. We weren't as fortunate in getting the staff to try convert.
Regards,
Bryan

We have been using SunRays for 4 years now and have 100% availability on all desktops (125) & servers (3). No virus problems, crashes, deleted files/icons. It's been fantastic. Use a free rdp client to access Windows apps when required & StarOffice will sometimes open MSOffice docs better than MS too! A 1 minute job to install a new workstation (unbox, connect to network & login). USB support for memory sticks, scanners, cdrom drives etc. Greatly reduced software licence problems, much less noise & heat generated & our insurance costs are 30% less. Flat LCD screens (SR170) fold down out of the way, connect to a data show projector easily and stereo audio output make multimedia exhibitions a joy to set up & use. Smart Card (SC) mobility and security is awesome! The future with Solaris10/JDS3 and x86 support will be exciting as will be WAN Broadband accessibilty with only a SC to lug around! Thin clients are the way to go, MS have got away with too many problems for far too lon
g & it's about time to try something new & better. Any article on TCO over time proves that thin clients are the future! Regards, Brian.
